Synthesizing communication materials to improve engagement and inspire healthy behaviors

Business Issue

To optimize connection with customers, improve comprehension of information, and inspire proactive health behaviors, our client asked Escalent’s behavioral science team to examine new and existing communication materials to refine messaging and synthesize themes to develop a best practice guide for future marketing content.

What We Did

Our behavioral science consultants:

  • Reviewed websites, mailers, and messages across nine health conditions
  • Annotated screenshots to identify what worked well and opportunities for improvement
  • Created a best practices framework to summarize findings and support client content evaluation needs moving forward

Our clients have a lot of priorities competing for their attention and brainpower is a finite resource. As we like to call it in behavioral science terms – they have a heavy Cognitive Load, which describes the way processing, remembering, and recalling information depletes our mental energy.

Result

The Escalent team developed a strategic reference resource within the client’s organization known as the “content creation design guide” to ensure information resonates, inspires and connects with customers.

To practice what we preach and keep our content as simple as possible, we also provided a one-page summary to socialize key learnings and facilitate implementation, allowing the insights to carry forward into future development.
