Escalent

While there’s been much talk and testimony about social media regulation between CEOs and lawmakers, Escalent wanted to better understand popular opinion.

We conducted a research study among American citizens of all ages, genders, geographies and political views to dig into these issues to provide a better picture for social media platforms. Specifically, we wanted to know whether people agree on social media’s ability to police themselves when their members promote or glorify violence, and, more importantly, what to do about it.

What's in the report?

Based on results from our national consumer self-funded study, this report explores:

  • The imminent prospect of regulation on social media platforms
  • The perceived role of social media in the January 6, 2021 attack on The Capitol
  • The ability and responsibility of social media platforms to police user conduct
  • The impact of current conspiracy theories among social media users
  • How social media platforms can put terms in place and secure a seat at the table with lawmakers
